Butterwood Farms is a grain farm in Dinwiddie County, Virginia.
About the Practices
Mr. Maitland has been practicing minimizing soil disturbance through no-till. For 54 years, his primary tillage tools are living roots and earth worms! He has kept the soil covered through the use of different season cover crops. He believes the soil should always has roots as it does in nature.
Why is protecting the soil important?
It is important to have our systems mimic nature by keeping the soil covered and maximizing living roots.
